I was injured 6 years ago when I ran face first into a screen door at dusk and suffered a horrific concussion. I knew when I fell that something horrible had happened, but my symptoms didn't start until a few days later. Sadly, because it was during Covid, I was shuffled around and misdiagnosed for years until it became so bad that I required emergency surgery. Luckily, in 2025, two skull base surgeries appeared to fix the painful problems in my head. However, like a game of Jenga, the agony quickly transferred to my mid cervical spine. I suffered for 11 months trying everything to rid myself of the pain until together, my neurosurgeon and I, discovered the Centeno-Shultz Clinic. Life before treatment was completely hopeless in every sense of the word. After all, I had been suffering for almost a year in a multi-post cervical collar, laying horizontal 18-20 hours a day and getting ketamine infusions for chronic regional pain syndrome. It was barely worth living. But today, while I am by no means cured or out of the woods yet (I just finished my second treatment and I will likely need several more), I finally feel as though I have a team of doctors who can help me. Before the Centeno-Shultz Clinic, I was struggling to come to terms with the fact that my life would be filled with excruciating 24/7 pain. Now that I am undergoing treatment and starting to feel a little relief, I no longer feel like a lost cause. The dedication that the entire team has shown me, and the care that Dr. Markle has bestowed upon me has truly been above and beyond. My recoveries have been very tolerable because he listened to my history and was gentle with my first set of injections to make sure I could tolerate the procedures. I am still in pain. I expect to be for some time until we treat all the areas that need treatment. But I do have some mobility back. I do have a little independence back. But most importantly, I have hope back--and I have Dr. Markle and the team at Centeno-Shultz and their partners Dr. Katz and Dr. Rosa to thank for that.
