Fellowship is an additional year of specialized training after successful completion of medical school, internship and residency. The physicians selected for the Centeno-Schultz Clinic fellowship have excelled in academics, clinical practice and are proficient using both ultrasound and x-ray. The Centeno-Schultz Clinic fellows have opted to dedicate any additional year of study with focus in orthobilogics where they will learn the how to diagnose, manage and treat common orthopedic conditions with precise injections of both platelet and or bone marrow concentrates. They will learn the role of biomechanics and how the body is truly all connected and how to prevent future injuries. This will be in addition to participating in seminars, assisting in cadaver workshops and research projects with publications.
Meet Dr. Sarah Pastoriza
Dr. Pastoriza is our second fellow for the 2019 year. A native of Miami Florida, Dr. Pastoriza is no stranger to sports related injuries, surgery and less than ideal outcomes. She was a softball catcher from ages 4-17 and competed in Pre-Olympic games prior to college. At the University of Florida she competed in Javelin throw and at the end of the her freshman year was 5th overall in the SEC and 4th in UF history. Unfortunately thereafter she sustained a near complete tear of her rotator cuff tendons which led to two shoulder surgeries and the end of her javelin career.
Her overuse injury and poor results from shoulder surgery led Dr. Pastoriza to conduct research in biomechanics which included utilizing motion analysis software to evaluate instability.
She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in Biological Engineering and a minor in biomechanics. Medical school was at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, FL followed by residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MetroHealth Center in Cleveland, OH. A keen interest in advanced x-ray guided spine treatments led Dr. Pastoriza to complete a Anesthesiology Pain Medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She is Board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Her interests include chronic neck and back pain and the compensatory mechanics that develop as a result of longstanding pain. When not spending time with her husband and young son, she enjoys swimming, cycling, and triathlons,
Dr Pastoriza is fluent in Spanish and will a true asset for our clinic and Spanish speaking patients.
